This research is entitled Process and Function of Mangalahat Horbo in the Mangokkal Holi Ceremony in the Toba Batak community located in the Siogung-ogung Village, Pangururan District, Samosir Regency. Indonesia has many cultures, traditions, and customs that are not widely known by the younger generation. Cultures and traditions that are believed to be passed down from generation to generation and are the identity of the nation must be maintained and preserved by the nation's successors. One of them is the mangalahat horbo tradition in the mangokkal holi ceremony in the Toba Batak community. Until now there are still many Batak people who carry out this ceremony amid the influence of modern culture which has begun to change the mindset of Indonesian people toward regional culture. This study aims to describe the process and stages and functions of mangalahat horbo in the Mangokkal Holi ceremony. The research method used in this paper is qualitative so that in this study using data collection techniques with two types of data, namely primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques with primary data, namely observation, in-depth interviews, documentation techniques, and data collection techniques with secondary data with library research. The results of this study explain that mangokkal holi is a ceremony to dig up the graves of Batak people who have long died to take their bones, then move them to another grave to unite them into one place. Meanwhile, mangalahat horbo is an offering ceremony by sacrificing a buffalo to Debata Mulajadi NaBolon, where the Batak people believe that by carrying out this ceremony, they will be bestowed with good fortune and health. Mangalahat horbo is also believed to be a ritual for washing away sins. In its implementation, several processes or stages must be carried out, namely the preparation stage and the implementation stage. Mangalahat horbo in the mangokkal holy ceremony has many functions in the Toba Batak community, for example as an expiation of sins and thanksgiving to Debata Mulajadi NaBolon for his blessings.
