Profil Zat Besi pada Pasien Anemia di RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan

Abstract

Background. Iron profile is one of the important supporting examinations of anemia. Iron profile are iron serum, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin saturation, and ferritin. Objectives. This study aims to describe the iron profile in anemic patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Methods. This research is retrospective descriptive study with cross-sectional design, consecutive sampling method and use secondary data. Results. This study involved 96 anemic patients consisting 19 cases iron deficiency anemia and 77 cases anemia of chronic/inflammatory diseases. Iron deficiency anemia distributed decreased serum iron (100%); increased TIBC (68,4%); decreased transferrin saturation (100%); and decreased ferritin (63,2%). Anemia of chronic/inflammatory disease distributed decreased serum iron (70,1%); decreased TIBC (93,5%); decreased transferrin saturation (53,2%); and increased ferritin (90,9%). Conclusion. Iron deficiency anemia distributed decreased serum iron; increased TIBC; decreased transferrin saturation; and decreased ferritin. The average levels of serum iron, TIBC, transferrin saturation and ferritin in iron deficiency anemia were 23,53 mcg/dL; 345,79 mcg/dL; 7,08%; and 52,8 mcg/dL. Anemia of chronic/inflammatory disease distributed decreased serum iron; decreased TIBC; decreased transferrin saturation; and increased ferritin. The average levels of serum iron, TIBC, transferrin saturation and ferritin in anemia of chronic/inflammatory disease were 55,75 mcg/dL; 197,55 mcg/dL; 65,87%; and 1219,2 mcg/dL.
