Merokok sebagai Faktor Risiko Tambahan Nefropati Diabetik

Abstract

Background. Diabetes mellitus is the collective term for heterogeneous metabolic disorders whose main finding is chronic hyperglycaemia. The cause is impaired insulin secretion or impaired insulin effect or usually both. One of the microangiopathy complications due to diabetes is diabetic nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy is characterized by persistent albuminuria of 30-299 mg/day. The main risk factor for diabetic nephropathy is chronic hyperglycemia in people with diabetes mellitus. In addition, a risk factor that affect in progression of nephropathy in diabetics is smoking. Aim. The purpose of this study is to discover the relation of smoking as an additional risk factor for diabetic nephropathy. Method. This research is an analytic study with a case control design that was conducted at the Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan. The population in this study were patients who were recorded as suffering from diabetes mellitus for the 2019-2021 period. The case sample in this study was diabetes mellitus patients with diabetic nephropathy and the sample was taken using a purposive sampling method. The control sample in this study was diabetes mellitus patients without diabetic nephropathy and the sample was taken using simple random sampling method. Results. The results of the study obtained 120 samples, and the results of data analysis obtained p value of 0.016. Conclusion. There is a correlation between smoking and diabetic nephropathy
