Background. Smartphones are used for communication, accessing the internet,
social media, and viewing videos. Smartphone addiction is the inability to control
usage even after having negative effects. Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short
Version (SAS-SV) contains 10 questions with 6 points each question. Academic
achievement represents the results of a person's performance in achieving learning
goals and can be measured by the grades from the school on a report card. Aim.
This study aims to determine the relationship between Smartphone Addiction Scale-
Short Version (SAS-SV) scores and academic achievement of 81 Jakarta Senior
High School students. Methods. This research is conducted analytically with a
cross-sectional study design. The samples for this research were 81 Jakarta Senior
High School students from the academic year 2021/2022 who met the inclusion and
exclusion criteria and were taken based on the probability sampling method with
stratified random sampling type. The SAS-SV was completed online by subjects,
while the report card was given by the school. Results. The prevalence of male
respondents with a SAS-SV scores that showed addiction was 53.7%, whereas
female respondents was 61.2%. The highest pattern of smartphone usage is for
social media with prevalence of 68.8%. Statistical calculations using the Spearman
correlation test showed that there is no relationship between SAS-SV scores and
academic achievement of 81 Jakarta Senior High School students (p=0.904).
Conclusion. There is no relationship between Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short
Version (SAS-SV) scores and academic achievement of 81 Jakarta Senior High
School students.
