Background. CAUTI is a urinary tract infection associated with urinary catheter placement for more than two consecutive days. According to the CDC, 19.738 cases were reported related to CAUTI. Escherichia coli is the most common bacterium in CAUTI and until now the threat of antibiotic resistance is still a challenge. Objective. The purpose of this research is to find out the description profile and pattern of sensitivity of bacteria that cause urinary tract infections in patients using urinary catheters at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan in 2020-2021. Method. This research is a descriptive retrospective design, using total sampling from secondary data medical records of UTI patients who use urinary catheters who undergo urine culture at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. Results. It was found that the majority of CAUTI patients were female (59.5%), aged 46-65 years (54.1%), and had accompanying diseases of the heart and blood vessels (33.8%), and occurred most frequently in 2021 (59.5%). The bacteria that cause the infection are gram-negative bacteria (74.7%) and the majority of the bacteria are Escherichia coli (31.3%), which some antibiotics still have a high sensitivity to E. coli such as tigecycline (100%), meropenem (92.3%), ertapenem (88.5%), nitrofurantoin (80.8%), while ceftriaxone (96.2%), cefazolin (96.0%), ofloxacin (94.1%), ampicillin/sulbactam (80%), cefepime (70%) were resistant. Conclusion. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the majority of CAUTI patients are female, aged 46-65 years, had accompanying diseases of the heart and blood vessels and the most cases occur in 2021. Gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli, are the bacteria that cause the most infections with tigecycline, meropenem, ertapenem, nitrofurantoin which has a high level of sensitivity, but ceftriaxone, cefazolin, ofloxacin, ampicillin/sulbactam, cefepime which have a high level of resistance.en_US
