    Abstract
Thermoplastic nylon is the world’s first flexible denture base and has been used as an alternative to resin denture bases since 1956. Denture cleaning is important to note in order to prevent the growt of microorganisms on the denture base which can cause infection in the oral cavity. The recommended denture cleanser for thermoplastic nilon is alkaline peroxide (val-clean) but it is difficult to obtain commercially and the price relatively expensive because of that there is a lot of study for traditional ingredient that are easily available to the public, the price’s affordable and have minimal side effects. Aloe vera extract is a traditional ingredient that contains antibacterial compounds which can be used as a denture cleanser. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of immersion denture base thermoplastic nylon in aloe vera extract of Staphylococcus aureus growth and color stability. The design of this study is experimental laboratoris. The sample is made of thermoplastic nylon in disk with samples size 10 mm x 2 mm and in cylinder with samples size 20 mm x 3 mm. This study has 40 samples and each group has 4 samples consisting of positive and negative groups, 40%, 50% and 60% aloe vera extract. The data were analyzed by one way Anova test with a significance value p = 0,001 (p < 0,05) that showed there was an effect of immersion denture base thermoplastic nylon in alkaline peroxide (val-clean), 40%, 50% and 60% aloe vera extract of Staphylococcus aureus growth and color stability. Least Significant Difference (LSD) test showed there was a difference effect of immersion denture base thermoplastic nylon in alkaline peroxide (val-clean), 40%, 50% and 60% aloe vera extract of Staphylococcus aureus growth with a significance value p = 0,001 (p < 0,05) and there was a difference effect of immersion denture base thermoplastic nylon in alkaline peroxide (val-clean) with 40%, 50% and 60% aloe vera extract, 40% aloe vera extract with 60% aloe vera extract of color stability with a significance value p = 0,001 (p < 0,05), 40% aloe vera extract with 50% aloe vera extract of color stability with a significance value p = 0,013 (p < 0,05) and 50% aloe vera extract with 60% aloe vera extract of color stability with a significance value p = 0,016 (p < 0,05). From the results of this study showed that immersion of a thermoplastic nylon denture base in 40% aloe vera extract can be used to clean dentures because it effectively inhibits the growth Staphylococcus aureus and the discoloration that occurs on denture base is still clinically acceptable.
