    Abstract
Heat cured acrylic resin denture base has biological properties that can be a place for the growth of microorganisms such as Candida albicans and physical properties one of which is surface roughness. Disinfection of dentures can be carried out using non-herbal based disinfectants such as chlorhexidine and herbs such as castor leaf extract (Ricinus communis). Castor leaves (Ricinus communis) have chemical compounds that can work as anti-fungal in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans, such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids, as well as phenolics which can increase surface roughness. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of disinfection of chlorhexidine and leaf extract of castor (Ricinus communis) on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans and surface roughness of denture base heat cured acrylic resin. The design of this research is laboratory experimental. The research method was by disinfecting denture base samples in chlorhexidine and 50%, 60% castor leaf extract to observe Candida albicans and surface roughness values after disinfection. The results of the study were tested using the univariant test and oneway Anova test. The average diameter of the Candida albicans after chlorhexidine disinfection was 13.09 ± 1.02 mm, 50% castor leaf extract was 14.47 ± 1.24 mm, and 60% castor leaf extract was 16.75 ± 1.97 mm. The average surface roughness of the base after chlorhexidine disinfection was 0.196 ± 0.051 μm, 50% castor leaf extract was 0.154 ± 0.019 μm, and 60% castor leaf extract was 0.187 ± 0.034 μm. The results of the oneway Anova test showed that there was a disinfection effect of chlorhexidine and castor leaf extract (Ricinus communis) concentrations of 50% and 60% on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans with a p value = 0.0001 and on the surface roughness of the denture base heat cured acrylic resin with a p value = 0.045 (p<0.05). Based on the values obtained in this study, it can be concluded that castor leaf extract with a concentration of 50% has a greater inhibition zone against Candida albicans than chlorhexidine and a lower surface roughness value than castor leaf extract with a concentration of 60%.
