| dc.description.abstract | Heat-polymerized acrylic resin (HPAR) is one of the most widely used denture base materials. HPAR has a good aesthetic, easy to repair, and non toxic. Nevertheless, HPAR has low mechanical properties, and important physical properties such as surface roughness. So modification is needed by adding reinforcement materials in the form of silica from palm shell ash. The aim of the study was analyze the effect of adding silica 2% and 5% on the surface roughness of HPAR denture base material. The design of this study was an experimental laboratory with HPAR base samples without added silica (control), and added silica 2%, 5% of surface roughness. And then, the LSD test was carried out to determine the significant difference in the surface roughness of HPAR. The result of this study have surface roughness value of the control group and the two groups with the addition of silica from palm shell ash at HPAR concetrations of 2% and 5% is 0,0405μm, 0,0643μm, 0,0972 μm. The addition of silica to HPAR can significantly increase the surface roughness (p=0,001(p<0,05)) through one-way ANOVA data test. The conclusion of this study is silica from palm shell ash can be used as a HPAR denture base reinforcement material, according to ISO standards the surface roughness of denture base material cannot be more than 0,2 μm. | en_US |
