Perubahan Fungsi Rumah Adat Batak Toba Menjadi Kafe di Pematangsiantar (Studi Kasus Coffee Kawan kita Pematangsiantar)

Abstract

This research is entitled: Changing the Function of Toba Batak Traditional Houses into Cafes in Pematangsiantar (Case Study of Kawan Kita Coffee). The purpose of this study was to find out the background of the change in the function of the Toba Batak Traditional House into a Cafe and its influence on the values that exist in the Toba Batak Traditional House and the attractiveness of the cafe to visitors. This research was conducted with a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews using interview guide guidelines, where the authors went directly to the field to obtain strong information from informants. The results of this study show that the background of the change in the function of the Toba Batak Traditional House into a Cafe is due to economic factors, the owner changes the function of the Toba Batak Traditional House into a Cafe to earn income, and the Toba Batak Traditional House also serves as an attraction for visitors who will come. Based on information from Kawan Kita Coffee owners and the Toba Batak ethnic community around the research location, the researchers analyzed that there was no decrease in values or a negative side from the change in function of the Toba Batak Traditional House, instead they were proud and supportive because the changes that occurred could introduce the Toba Batak Traditional House to various audiences. Based on the results of the research and conclusions, the authors make the following suggestions: Kawan Kita Coffee begins to build cooperative relationships with related agencies to develop their businesses, this can be the most powerful promotion and can help them in terms of funds, then Gorga Batak which is in The Toba Batak Traditional House was clarified to beautify it and an explanation was made about the meaning of the Batak Gorga
