| dc.description.abstract | This study raises the title of the Social Meaning of the Use of Electric Cigarettes (vape) in the Perspective of Users Among USU's Social Sciences Students. Descriptive Study of USU's Social Sciences Students. Social meaning is a term to describe something related to the process or result of social activity. In this study, the research method used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The purpose of this study, researchers want to find out and describe what are the motives for using electric cigarettes (vape) and what is the meaning of using electric cigarettes (vape) in the perspective of USU Social Sciences students who use electric cigarettes (vape). There are two kinds of data collection techniques, namely primary and secondary. Primary data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. While the secondary data collection technique uses the library study method. This study uses Alfred Schutz's phenomenological theory and Jean Baudrillard's consumption theory. The results of this study indicate that the motives of USU Social Sciences students who use electric cigarettes (vape) in using e-cigarettes (vape) are environmental influences, self-image, as a transition, electric cigarettes (vape) are considered safer, taste, smell good/fragrant, the use of electric cigarettes (vape) is considered more economical, and also as a filler when bored. The meaning of using electric cigarettes (vape) in the perspective of USU Social Sciences students who use electric cigarettes (vape) is that the use of electric cigarettes (vape) is interpreted as social prestige, as a lifestyle, and as an art. | en_US |
