Background: In acute exacerbations of chronic lung conditions, pulmonary rehabilitation has a moderate to large impact on the patient's quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation during COVID-19 acute management of should be considered whenever possible to improve symptoms of disability, maintain function and improve quality of life. Therefore, this researchwas aims to assess effect of upper-arm and breathing exercise on length of stay in severe COVID- 19 patients.
Methods : This research is a quasi-experimental research with post-test one group only design.The upper-arm and breathing exercise took place for 10 days in 20 patients diagnosed with severe COVID-19 based on PCR examination, and the patients have satisfied the inclusion andexclusion criteria. To identify length of stay severe COVID-19 patients afterexercise.
Result: Of 20 patients that received exercise intervention, majority of 5 patients (25%) were hospitalized for 11 days; with minimum – maximum length of stay was 10 - 26 days.
Conclusion: It was found that the average length of stay in these patients was
14.75 + 5.5 days, which is shorter than severe COVID-19 patients without exercise intervention.
