Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of death due to cancer. The incidence of this tumour tends to increase up to more than 50% in 2030. The prognose of this cancer can be predicted by several parameters including autophagy which occurs in tumour cells. Autophagy plays dual role in tumorigenesis, as a tumour suppressor and tumour promotor. Immunohistochemical Beclin-1 is one of autophagy related markers that can be performed to investigate the autophagy process within tumour cells.
Objective: To analyze the correlation between Beclin-1 immunohistochemical expression and histopathology grading of colorectal adenocarcinoma.
Material and methods: This is an analytical study with cross sectional approach on 41 sampels of colorectal adenocarcinoma. The correlation will be analyzed statistically by using Spearman rank test.
Results: The expression of Beclin-1 shows strong correlation with histopathology grading of colorectal adenocarcinoma (p=0,0001, r=+0,802).
