Background: Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death worldwide, with a
death rate of around 17.9 million people per year. Heart attack or the medical name
is acute myocardial infarction is a condition where the cessation of blood supply to
a part of the heart causes the death of heart muscle cells. One of the clinical
spectrums of acute coronary syndrome besides unstable angina is acute myocardial
infarction with ST-elevation (IMAEST) with a percentage of cases reaching almost
as much as 36-37% of ACS cases. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine
the level of knowledge of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North
Sumatra semesters 5 and 7 about acute myocardial infarction. Method: The design
of this study is descriptive and measured using a questionnaire method with a
questionnaire tool. The selected sample was the 5th and 7th semester students of
the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra. The research sample was
selected using a non-probability sampling technique of consecutive sampling type.
SPSS will be used to analyze research data. Results: The results of this study can
indicate that the level of knowledge of students of the Faculty of Medicine,
University of North Sumatra semesters 5 and 7 about acute myocardial infarction
is good with 52 people (52,0%), 44 people (44,0%) sufficient knowledge and 4
people (4,0%) less knowledge. Conclusion: Students of the Faculty of Medicine,
University of North Sumatra semesters 5 and 7 have a good and sufficient level of
knowledge about acute myocardial infarction.
