Objective: Identification of related factors depression to HIV patients in poly VCT Hospital Haji Medan City”
Methods: This study is a predictive multivariate study with a cross-sectional approach to determine the relationship between depression factors in people suffering from HIV in the poly VCT of Medan Haji Hospital. To assess depressive symptoms using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) instrument.
Results: A total of 113 subjects participated in this study. With a median value (min-max) of age 38(23-50) years, median value (min-max) of monthly income 6(3-25) million, median value (min-max) length of education 9(6-16) years , median value (min-max) CD4 count 98(64-854) cells/mm3, median value (min- max) BMI 20.02(17.00-20.78) million million, median value (min-max) body mass index (BMI) 21.10 (18.50–23.80) kg/m 2 , the median (min-max) length of illness was 9 (3–20) years, the majority 59 people (52.2%) male subjects, the majority 66 people (58.4%) subjects were married, the majority 66 people (58.4%) subjects smoked, the mean value was ± s.b BDI-II score (21.28±3.61), there was a relationship between age and BDI-II score (p=0.001 and r+0.29) total income (p=0.003 and r=-0.22), length of illness (p=0.001 and r=+0.29), CD4 cell count (P<0.001 and r=+0.41), smoker (p= 0.017 and the value of r=+0.13)
Conclusion: Factors related to depression scores in HIV patients in the poly VCT of Haji Medan Hospital were age, total income, length of illness, CD4 cell count, smokers.
