Nanocomposite polymers has attracted great attention world wide both
in academic and industry. The improvement material properties of polymers can
be done by using layered silicates with a low concentration. This research was
conducted to test the thermal stability of polymer degradation nanokomposite
using montmorillonites as reinforcement and as an antioxidant irganox 1010.
Sample preparation is done by using different polypropylene and use different
montmorillonites to see changes carbonyl index. Carbonyl index changes occur
according to the length of a heating process is shown by the FTIR spectrum for
the blending sample. The influence of temperature changes observed with
Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA) which showed no significant numbers. This
study gave a presentation to the resistant of the polymer nanocomposite in
thermal conditions and environmental destruction due to factor in the heating
process in the Wallace oven until the embrittlement of polymer nanocomposite.
The presence of montmorillonites accelerate the degradation of polypropylene
nanocomposite.
