A study on Distribution altitudinal Arecaceae in Mount Sinabung forest were
conducted in January to Maret 2008. Sampling area was settled by using porpusive
sampling method, and divided to six location based on their altitude. Location I was
1400-1500 m above sea level, location II was 1500-1600 m above sea level, location
III was 1600-1700 m above sea level, location IV was 1700-1800 m above sea level,
location V was 1800-1900 m above sea level, location VI was 1900-2000 m above
sea level. Area size of observation was 10 by 9000 m (0,9 ha). Were observed in 15
plots with the plot size of 10 by 10 m.
The result showed that there were 10 kind Arecaceae with 774 individual. The
species was dominated by Calamus sp. with 263 individual. Amount of the highest
kinds, could be found at the II and III location. Tree vegetation structure in location I
was dominated by Caryota urens with INP 118,52%, in location II was dominated by
Calamus sp. with INP 93,75%, in location III was dominated by Calamus sp. with
INP 84,92%, in location IV was dominated by Calamus sp. with INP 83,62%, in
location V was dominated by Pinanga sp. with INP 69,60%, and on location VI was
dominated by Pinanga sp. with INP 143,35%.
