Iler ( Coleus atropurpureus Benth) is a species of the family Lamiaceae
which is used as a traditional medicine to treat fever, ulcer wound and diabetes
mellitus. This plant is known to contain flavonoid. This study aimed to isolate and
determine the molecular structure of flavonoid compounds from the leaves of C.
atropurpureus Benth. Extraction was carried out by maceration using methanol as
solvent and the methanol extract was partitioned with n-hexane solvent.
Ethylacetate was added to the methanol dried extract and then filtered, the
ethylacetate extract were separated into its components using column
chromatography with silica gel 60 as stationary phase and n-hexane-ethylacetate
(6:4 v/v) as mobile phase. A pure isolate was obtained as a yellowish amorphous
solid (37 .5 mg). The structure of the pure isolate were determined by spectral
analysis, i.e. UV-Vis, FT-IR, ID- and 2D-NMR and LC-MS experiments. Based
on spectral analysis that the isolate was concluded to be a flavonoid compound of
flavone type namely apigenin-7 -O-glucoside.
