Background. Autopsy is an examination of the body of a corpse which includes external and internal examination using scientifically justifiable methods by competent and authorized experts.
Purpose. To determine the level of knowledge of members of the Sunggal Sector police regarding autopsies.
Method. This research is a descriptive survey research using a questionnaire as a tool to collect data. The research population was all members of the Sunggal police force who met the inclusion criteria, while the sample determination used the Slovin formula so that 90 research samples were obtained. The research instrument used a questionnaire and data analysis was carried out qualitatively.
Result. The results of this study indicate that the majority of respondents have good knowledge about autopsies, namely 69 people (76.7%). Based on age, the highest percentage of knowledge about autopsies was achieved by respondents aged between 39-48 years and 49-58 years, which was 87.5%. Based on gender, the highest percentage of knowledge about autopsies was achieved by male respondents, namely 77.3%. Based on education, the percentage of the best knowledge about autopsies was achieved by respondents with a master's degree, which was 100.0%. Based on the rank level, the best percentage of knowledge about autopsy was achieved by respondents with IPDA rank, which was 100.0%. It is recommended that members of the Medan Sunggal Police Sector continue to improve their knowledge of autopsies on aspects that require better communication with the families of victims who require autopsies, so that the autopsy can be maximized.
