The type of end-plate connection is mostly used in the steel structure
connection which carries the moment. The connection can be an end-plate welded to
the beam and connected to the column with bolts. The end-plate can be assembled
without extended plate (flush-plate) or with extended end plate. Besides that, the
steel-connection which carries the moment can also be assembled with the flangeplate
connection where the plates is connected with bolts to the beam and welded to
the column.
The experiment of the steel wide flange beam-column using end-plate has a
better ability to resist the loads than flange-plate connection. It can be seen from the
maximum limit load of end-plate connectiont is bigger than flange-plate connection
for the finite element method or the experiment. The maximum limit load of the
connection using the end-plate is 1.087 times bigger than the connection using the
flange plate based on the finite element method and the result reaches to 1.105 times
bigger based on the experiment. The maximum-limit load of connection using the
end-plate is 51.8% from the finite element method and reaches to 58.0% from the
experiment compared with the rigid connection. However, for the flange-plate
connection is 4 7. 6% from the finite element method and reaches to 5 2. 4% from the
experiment compared with the rigid connection.
The difference of maximum-limit load of the end-plate connection from the
experiment and the finite element method reaches to 10. 6%, while for flange-plate
connection the difference is 9.18%. The connection design capacity based on AISCLRFD
2010 is 3, 7 40 kilograms for the end-plate connection and 3,180 kilograms for
the flange-plate connection.
