dc.description.abstract | Transportation is an activity that affects the smooth wheels of the economy.
The core problem of transportation is to minimize distribution costs. Parameters that
affect distribution costs in the form of demand, supply and transportation costs are
sometimes not fixed, so it needs to be stated in a fuzzy set to solve it. In 2021, the cost
of distributing rice at Perum Bulog Sub Divre Medan is very high accompanied by
uncertain demand and supply so that the parameters of demand and supply are
expressed in fuzzy numbers. In this study, the improved exponential approach method
was used to find optimal solutions in rice distribution by taking into account three
parameters, namely demand, supply and distribution costs. The improved
exponential approach method is a method that is able to solve balanced and
unbalanced transportation problems directly. However, to solve problems in fuzzy
form, this method is combined with fuzzy integer transportation to find integer values
that can represent fuzzy sets. The calculation results show that the cost of
distributing rice in 2021 using the improved exponential approach method has
decreased by IDR 41,155,480 from the actual distribution cost of IDR 729,593,658.
From these results, it can be concluded that the improved exponential approach
method is able to optimally solve the fuzzy transportation problem in 2021 at the
