| dc.description.abstract | Cancer can attact all segments of society regardlees of social status, age, and gender. Children, adolescents and adults are not spared from the attack of cancer. Similarly, men and women can be attacted by this most feared disease. The data available reveals that women are the most attacted by cancer. The purpose of this quantitative study wiyh cross-sectional design was to find out the relationship between family support on coping mechanism of the patients and cancer disease in the Oncology Polyclinic, dr. Pirngadi General Hospital Medan in 2014. Family is two or more individuals joined due to a particular bond to share experiences and to perform emotional approach. Coping mechanism is various efforts carried out by individual to cope with the stress he/she is facing. The samples were parts of the number and characteristics owned by the population selected through consecutive sampling technique. The result of this study showed that majority of the family support based on the instrumental aspect was poor (68%), majority of the family support based on the aspect of information was good (67%), majority of the family support based on the aspect of evaluation was good (57%), majority of the family support based on the emotional aspect was good (65%), and majority of the family support based on the aspect of financial aspect was good (67%). Majority of the coping mechanism in the patients with cancer disease was good (78%). There was a relationship between family support towards coping mechanism of the patients and cancer disease in the oncology Polyclinic , dr Pirngadi General Hospital Medan with p = 0.030 and the strength of the correlation (r) = 0.390. The family of the patient is suggested to provide to the cancer patients to improve their coping mechanism. | en_US |
