Work satisfaction is a feeling nurse practitioners between conformity and expectation related to their job. Nurses' work satisfaction is the main target in human resources management. It is mostly influenced by the leader's attitude in his leadership. Leadership style is the way which is done by ward heads to influence nurses in performing their function as the management of nursing service and care. The objective of the research is to analyze the relationship betwen leadership style of the ward heads and nurses' work satisfaction at Tanjung Pura General Hospital. The research used analytic survey. The samples were 97 respondents, taken by using simple proportionate sampling technique. The instruments of the research were questionnaires. Rank Spearman correlation test at the sicnificance p-value < 0,05 was used for the statistic test. The result of the research showed that there were significant correlation between ward heads' leadership styles ( autocratic, democratic, participative and laissez faire ) and nurses' work satisfaction at (p = 0,001, r=- 0,245) for autocratic leadership style and work satisfaction, (p = 0,002, r = -0,317) for participative leadership style and work satisfaction, (p = 0,015, r = 0,496) for democratic leadership style and work satisfaction and (p = 0,030, r = -0,221) for laissez faire leadership style and work satisfaction. This research is expected to be beneficial for ward head in presenting democratic leadership style so that nurse associate's work satisfaction can be realized.
