This research uses qualitative method and its application includes the following
stages: the data collection stage through observation, non-guided interview,
documentation, ethnography descriptive data analysis and research report. This
research uses linguistic local wishdom approach as well. This approach is the
foundation to understand human behavior and language in accordance with the
background of belief and culture. Being selected as research setting, Tanjung
Pura has some aspects of culture that are interesting, unique and worthy of
research. In everyday life, the society still holds fast to the mores and cultural
heritage of ancestors from generation to generation. At the time of the cultural
legacy of the ancestor is nearly extinct due to the currents of globalization and
modernization, Tanjung Pura is still able to defend it. One is the tradition of
Mantra treatment that is readings or prayers are used to treat patients or patient
In the life of its society, the tradition of Mantra treatment is used t0 treat diseases
of the physical and non-physical or medical nature and magical with the
traditional ways in the form of prayers, white water filed prayers, potions from
herbs, pressing on a nerve points om the body, as well as the power of the
supernatural. Bomo also implemented several strategies to preserve the culture of
his patients, Traditional treatment continually needs to be preserved because it is
one of the local wisdoms. The tradition of Mantra treatment belongs to traditional
medicine that has a nature of its own uniqueness and local wisdom that is
inherited from generation to generation. The result indicated that bomo does the
practice for the society still trust the treatment and he also applies some cultural
strategies to retain the patients. The mantra on the Malay Tanjung Pura has a
function of treatment culture, and economies. The social function of the mantra is
to maintain the continuity of the social culture; the function of culture as a work
of literature or oral literature containing the values and teaching containing the
values and teachings of the noble nuances that are useful for education; economic
function as a relatively economical method of treatment and can keep the
simplicity of life and equality among the Malay people in Tanjung Pura. The
tradition of Mantra treatment continually needs to be preserved because it is one
of the local wisdoms.
