dc.description.abstract | Background: Plumbum as one of the contaminants can affect people's
health such as reproductive health, so that should be the prevention of
and protection against interference.
Objective: Looking at the effect of chitosan extract shrimp shells against
testicular histopathology male rats (Rattus sp.) which has exposed of lead.
Research methods: Method purely experimental approach post test only
control group design to measure the effect of treatment (intervention) in
the experimental group by comparing four intervention groups (P1, P2, P3,
and P4) with 2 controls (K1 and K2), which is ; K1 = distilled water, K2 =
distilled water+ Pb, P1 = Pb+ chitosan 0.5%, P2 = Pb+ chitosan 0.75%,
P3 = Pb + chitosan 1 %, and P4 = chitosan 1 %.
Methods: True experimental method, approach post test only control
group design to measure the effect of treatment (intervention) in the
experimental group by comparing four intervention groups (P1, P2, P3,
and P4) with 2 controls (K1 and K2), which is; K1 = distilled water, distilled
water + Pb = K2, P1 = Pb + 0.5% chitosan, P2 = Pb + 0.75% chitosan,
chitosan P3 = Pb + 1 %, P4 = 1 % chitosan. Pb concentration of 1 0 mg / kg
of body weight of rats. Administration of Pb and chitosan each are 0.5 ml
per rat by a margin of 1 hour.
Results: The results of morphological description of shrimp chitosan
powder with SEM surface looks rough. Chitosan can improve Pb and MDA
levels in the blood of male rats due to exposure of lead acetate (9.52±1.12
mg/dl), lower levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) testes (23.56±7.30
mg/dl), repair of testicular interstitial connective tissue thickness
(11.98±1.37μm) and a diameter of seminiferous tubules (294.33±59.38
μm), as well as reducing apoptosis of testicular germ cells (31.40±20.11).
Chitosan can maintain the number of Sertoli (12.60 ±2:42) and leydig
cells (10.75±1.05), and the normal quantity (amount) sperma (87.00±0.97
million/ml), as well as the morphology of sperma of normal quality
(76.30±0.76%), motility (76.70±3.40%), and viability (77.70±1.30%) male
rats that are infertile due to exposure of lead acetate.
Conclusion: Chitosan from shrimp shells can repair partially testicular
histopathology male rats (Rattus sp.) and sperm quality after tampered
