dc.description.abstract | BACKGROUND : Ocular motor palsies are well- recognised ocular
motility abnormality. lt consist of oculomotor, trochlear, and
abducens palsy. Cause of it include vascular disease, neoplasm,
and head trauma.
OBJECTIVE : To determine prevalence of oculomotor, trochlear,
and abducens palsies over one year period.
METHODS : The study was design as retrospective - deskriptive
with chart review. lt perform by medical record of Neuro
Ophthalmology Department at Adam Malik Hospital Medan during
2012, with ocular motility disorder and binocular diplopia.
RESULT : There were 82 patients with ocular motor palsies, which
mean 670/o men and 33% women. Oculomotor palsies was present
in 27 patients (32.9%), abducens palsies in 51 patients (62.2%),
and multiple cranial nerve palsies in 4 patients (4.9%). None of
trochlear palsy wlthout accompanying by oculomotor and abducens
palsy. The main cause is vascular disease (62.2%), followed by
neoplasm (25.6%) dan head trauma (12.2o/o).
CONCLUSION : This study provide ocular motor palsy with a
notably higher prevalence of abducens palsies. Patients with
vascular as underlying cause of ocular palsy may undergo a
focused medical evaluation followed by close observation, whereas
a full neurologic evaluation, including prompt neuroimaging | en_US |
