It is noted that the meaning of city garden is so wide and variously in existing,
accordingly however it can be concluded that the crty garden is recognized an open space
greenly region for a city, it should be equipped with various facilities for public
requirements as urban either for active recreation or passive recreation.
Recreation is an activity as basic human need that may be done by people without caring
the age, group, position or profession he hold. The recreation can be done regarding see
the cost, place or facilities belong to.
Medan has at least 131 resorts of city garden, about 19 out are equipped with
sculptures and fountains, total width of 124,664 m2. This wide is not proportional value
to the with of Medan region of whole 26,510 Ha with total population les thar. 2 million
people.
This research studied about the crty garden as alternative for recreation resort for
families of Medan. Accordingly, Medan city ideally has a special garden as an open
space for public for recreation pf those families. In this case is sorted the problem, at least
there every family can do activities by relax and spend their time away from daily
activities.
The problem to this case is how far the existence of city garden could accommodate its
firnctions as alternative for recreation resort and the families like it if viewed from their
activities and facilities available.
The objective of this study then where the city government set cooperate with
private sectors and public and those families to come, and the authority is encouraged to
exploit it optimally according to the function of city garden for recreation and arrange the
beauty of the city.
In this case, the study focuses on scope ofresearch and existed of5 (five) resorts such as
: Ahmad Yani Garden, Beringin Garden, Koni Gajah Mada Garden, Teladan Garden and
Sri Deli Garden.
The research method adopted were a Descriptive Method and data Analysis namely by
collecting data, to clarifi iot, to analyze, as well as interpret them for having description
be more relevant to the object for research. Technique for sample was taken randomly
and directive.
