Analyzing the dialectical theory of Hegel will lead to conclusion that a
change of culture will lead to continuity of two different cultural poles. Each pole
will diffuse interest and make a new culture node which can be different from the
original. The meeting of Indonesian culture with Dutch culture has started from
16th century and lasted to 350 year later, which is very long and ascertains are
influence of each other. There are many research which focus on the Dutch
architecture influence on local but not the other way round.
This research attempts to study the influence of local architecture toward
the Ducth. Through this research, the writer also attempt to examine in depth the
effect of local architecture to a certain extend in Dutch architecture.
The research used a theory of transformation from Antoniades. This
Theory acts as a tool to analyze transformations that happened at objects studied
and as tool to be able to recognize the original form until the new one.
The colonial building of Medan town are selected and the discussion of the
research. The conclusion proved that there is a great influence of local architecture
toward the Ducth.
