    Abstract
    Characterization of wood-plastic composites using polypropylene grafted with maleic anhydride with variations in the mass of areca nut fiber as a filler has been successfully carried out. This research was carried out in three stages which included the alkalization process, polypropylene functionalization with Maleic Anhydride, and composite board molding. Tests carried out on PP-g-MA were determining the degree of grafting, melting point, and FT-IR analysis, PP-g-MA with a variation of 92:6 formed had an optimum grafting degree of 9.406% and a melting point of 162.06℃. Testing the physical and mechanical properties of parchment board based on SNI 8154: 2015 includes density test, moisture content test, thickness expansion test, dry flexural modulus test, flexural elastic modulus test and continued analysis of the morphology of the composite board fracture using SEM. From the results of the mechanical properties test of specimen I with the composition of areca stem fiber: PP : PP-g-MA : BPO : DVB (70 : 40 : 30 : 2 : 3) is a composite board with optimum results, where all physical test values are in accordance with the standard composite board quality and MoR value of 215,5125 , MoE 40408,6 SEM analysis shows that adding the mass of areca nut fiber can improve the resulting physical and mechanical properties. From the results of the SEM analysis, it can be seen that there is an effect of fiber on the composite board.
