Background: One of physiological disorder, ie. Schizophrenia has been known
to have few damages area in recognition function, eg. Movement skills, attention,
memory, and intelligence, and performance functions. Music has character to
broaden many some areas of human function ranging from psychological well-
being. Quality of life and physiological function. Music application is considered
as an adjunctive therapy for several illness, including schizophrenia gain benefits
from music therapy. Poor interpersonal contact and disorganized behaviour are
some of deficite that have been known in schizophrenia. Additional music therapy
for patients who have received antipsychotic drugs.
Objective: to compare between positive symptoms and negative symptoms
PANSS scores before and after the administration of music therapy in female
schizophrenic patients.
Method: This study was quasi-experimental quantitative pre and post test
between control group and intervention group music therapy, ie by comparing
the two groups. The analysis used t dependent test and independent test.
Results: There were no significant differences in PANSS scores at session O (p
= 0.086) and at session 24 (p = 0.135) between the groups pharmacotherapy +
music therapy and pharmacotherapy alone. There were no significant differences
in symptom score of the PANSS positive session O (p = 0.977), and sessions 24
between groups of pharmacotherapy+therapy music and pharmacotherapy group
(p=0.135).
Conclusions: There is still need consideration to provide music therapy as an
adjunctive therapy for schizophrenic patients
