Forensic odontology is a rapidly expanding branch of forensic science. Currently the forensic odontology, offers a tongue print a novel concept as an alternative to traditional biometrics. Tongue print is a type of biometric identification, to investigate information on the dorsal surface which is different and unique to each individual. Objective: to determine and identify the dominant tongue prints on male and female Bataknese students at Universitas Sumatera Utara, based on shape, lingual apex, fissure (location, depth, shape), and texture. Method: The sample for this analytical descriptive research with a cross sectional design consists of 30 female and 30 male students. The tongue prints are printed by using alginate (irreversible hydrocolloid) and gips stone type IV. All events are recorded digitally by a professional. The data of the tongue prints is analysed by using the descriptive method (using percentage and tabulation), as well as the chi-square statistics test (x2). Findings: There is a significant difference in tongue prints of the male Bataknese students from that of female Bataknese students Universitas Sumatera Utara, based on tongue shape. The rectangular (U-shape) tongue with a sharp apex lingual, physiology texture, and no fissures are found to be the most dominant tongue print for Bataknese students. Conclusion: The pattern of Bataknese student’s tongue prints differs between male and female, but the significant difference lies beneath the shape of the tongue. The tongue print patterns are considered to be a potential supporting data for racial identification.en_US
