Styrax sp. is a tree that produces sap that has high economic value and is one of the superior crops in North Sumatra. The declining productivity of Styrax sp. affects the economic income of communities around the forest whose livelihoods are derived from the growth of Styrax sp. This study aims to analyze the physical characteristics of the soil and microclimate as well as to map the physical characteristics of the soil and microclimate on incense fields based on the land unit in North Tapanuli Regency. This research was carried out from May 2021 to October 2021. The parameters used were soil texture, bulk density, soil porosity, soil permeability, effective depth, temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, and length of wet month dry month. The determination of the location of soil sampling is done by the purposive sampling method (random), then interviews with local residents and taking soil samples are analyzed in the laboratory. The results of the analysis obtained the characteristics of the physical properties of the soil, including the type of soil texture, which is the sandy loam type. Bulk density values range from 0.38 to 0.50 g/cm3. Porousness has very porous criteria and permeability with moderate criteria. The effective depth of soil on frankincense fields is 100 cm. The characteristics of the microclimate include temperature with moderate criteria, humidity with moderate criteria, and rainfall with high criteria.
