Red Calliandra (Calliandra calothyrsus Meissn.) is a plant that can be used
as an alternative energy source that can be renewed and sustainable. The obstacle
faced in generative propagation is the low germination of seeds, which is caused
by the hard seed coat and has a waxy coating. This study aims to obtain data and
information regarding the effect of various pre-treatments on C.calothyrsus seed
germination. The design used in this study was a non-factorial Completely
Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications. P1 (Seed without
scarification), P2 (Wound with nail clippers on the cotyledons), P3 (Soak in hot
water 80oC for 6 minutes), and P4 (Soak in 80% H2SO4 solution for 20 minutes).
The results showed that the pre-treatment that gave the best results on
C.calothyrsus seed germination was soaking the seeds in 80% H2SO4 solution for
20 minutes with germination starting on the 2nd day after sowing, germination rate
of 21.36%/etmal, germination rate of 77%, and the germination value of 40.12.
