    Abstract
The preliminary plant design of Isopropyl Myristate manufacturing plant using reactive distillation reactor has production capacity of 25,000 tonnes/year and 330 days of operation per annum. The main process of this preliminary plant design consists of three stages, namely the reaction stage, the neutralization stage, and the purification stage. The reaction is an esterification reaction that takes place in the RD reactor column with an average temperature condition of 150 °C with a retention time of 32 minutes in the reactor. 21.901,49 tonnes/year of myristic acid as raw materials needed to meet the production capacity The specific task was solved for the detailed engineering design of the RD reactor for the IPM esterification reaction. Distillation columns that have been designed have the following specifications: • Number of stage : 9 stage • Feed location of myristic acid : ke-6 from the bottom • Feed location of IPA : ke-1 from the bottom • Distillation column height : 12,792 m • Distillation column diameter : 0,9144 m • Column shell material : Stainless Steel 316 SA-240 • Column shell thickness : 3/16 in • Column head thickness : 3/16 in • Reactor packing material : Stainless Steel 316 SA-240 Isopropyl Myristate manufacturing plant from isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid using RD reactor is planned to be established in Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus (KEK) Sei Mangkei, with the total area of the plant area 46.696 m2. 1.788,948 kg/h of water needed for this plant are supplied from PT Kawasan Industri Nusantara. The planned form of organization of this company is Perseroan Terbatas (PT) with a line organizational structure and staff, as well as a total of 250 employees. The economic analysis results on this preliminary plant design are as follows: 1. Capital Investment (CI) : Rp. 1.871.242.254.913,08 2. Total Cost (TC) : Rp. 1.289.885.188.853,21 3. Profit Margin (PM) : 20,90 % 4. Break Even Point (BEP) : 21,00 % 5. Return On Investment (ROI) : 21,28 % 6. Pay Out Time (POT) : 4 years 8 months 7. Return On Network (RON) : 35,46 % 8. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) : 26,98 % Based on the results of economic analysis, it can be concluded that the Isopropyl Myristate manufacturing plant using Reactive Distillation reactor is feasible to be established.
