dc.description.abstractThis study aims to describe the forms and functions of the registers of the Malay language used by fishing communities in the Ivory Coast Pantai Gading Village , Secanggang District, Langkat Regency. This research is qualitative with descriptive method. While the method used in collecting data is accidental sampling technique or unplanned technique, namely informants are not told directly if they will be recorded and examined. The data in this study were obtained from informants, in the form of fishermen's conversations in Ivory Coast Village. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis method, in which the researcher described everything that was found in the Malay speech of the fishermen in the Ivory Coast Pantai Gading Village, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency which included the form and function of the register. The theory used in this study is Sociolinguistics which focuses on language in society. The results of research related to the form and function of Malay language registers in fishing communities are that: the forms of register found in this study are divided into two, namely limited envelope registers and open envelope registers. The limited envelope register consists of 8 utterances, namely: barat koing, kajang, lubok, serghampang, menongkah, nyoghong, saghrat, and rhangsang. The open envelope register consists of 25 utterances, namely: ngono, betandek, jalo, takong, beghidau, cuban, timpas, kile, aloan, mileh, kayoh, kotam, betambat, bubol, dilaboh, jalo, pasang bosa, tangkol, ngenak, pancang, bubu, ambai, pasang mati, teghocok and kotam renjong. The register form of the Malay language in fishing communities also has types of intimitive (already familiar), consultative (effort) and casual (relaxed). The function of the register of the Malay language in fishing communities in communicating has an emotive function, a conative function and a poetic function. The emotive function serves as a expression of pleasure, anger and sadness. While the second register function, namely the conative function, is most often used by fishermen, such as orders and seduction, because in their activities fishermen cooperate with each other in various tasks, while seduction is used to seduce buyers or visitors so they are interested in buying their catch. The poetic function is used by fishermen to convey a certain message or message.en_US
