| dc.description.abstract | Swietenia mahagoni L Jacq or known as mahogany is a type of annual plant with a height that can reach 10-20 m and a diameter of more than 100 cm. Mahogany has many benefits other than the wood, so it has high economic value. Mahogany seeds are recalcitrant, where this type of seed has a low shelf life, loses its viability quickly in various storage conditions, therefore it is necessary to know how to maintain seed viability. This study aims to obtain the best storage time and type of storage media on the germination or viability of mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni) seeds. In this study, the effect of two factors was calculated, namely storage time (L) 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks, as well as storage media factors (M) sawdust, rice husks and coconut husks. The research design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors. Based on the results of the study by calculating the moisture content of seeds and storage media, percentage of germination, germination rate, germination height and fresh weight of sprouts, the maximum storage time was 6 weeks of storage with the percentage value of germination storage time 19.38%, germination rate 22.83 days, the height of the sprout was 19.60 cm, the root length was 7.15 cm and the fresh weight of the sprout was 1.97 g. While the best storage media to maintain the moisture content of the seeds is coconut husk with a value of 5.80%. | en_US |
