The performance of an effective employee arises because of the work spirit that
drives him. In an organization it is the responsibility of a leader to encourage and
direct his subordinates in order to provide optimal and quality work results. Effective
leadership is the key to achieving excellence in the organization. Apart from the
leadership component, other factors that influence individual performance are
psychological factors, one of which is personality. This study aims to see and analyze
the influence of charismatic leadership style and big five personality on employee
performance. The subjects in this study were employees of the Ministry of Religion
of North Sumatra, amounting to 150 people. The measuring instrument used in this
study is the employee performance scale, the leadership questionnaire scale, and the
big five personality scale (NEO-P-IR). The data obtained were then processed using
multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the charismatic leadership style
and big five personality simultaneously had a positive effect on employee
performance with a value of Fcount ≥ Ftable (10.537 ≥ 2.666) and a significance
value of 0.000 ≤ 0.05. Charismatic leadership style is a dominant predictor in
improving employee performance. The implication of this study shows that to
improve employee performance, it can be improved with charismatic leadership style
variables and big five personality (openness to experience and consciousness) in the
organization.
