Estimation is the activity of making statistical conclusions, from general to concrete, which makes it possible to draw conclusions and get closer to the truth. Maximum likelihood method and Bayesian method are methods for estimating parameters because they are closely related to numerical skills specifically in generating solutions to an equation. The purpose of this study was to find a comparison of b values using the Maximum Likelihood method for the North Sumatra region. So based on the results, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the b value calculated from the cumulative and non-cumulative magnitude relationships for the North Sumatra region from the data available on the official website of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency in the period January 2015 – December 2020.
