Sei Tuan Indah Beach is an area that has mangrove forests and is located in Deli
Serdang Regency which is used as a tourist attraction, fishing activity, aquaculture
and also a settlement for the local community. The existence of this activity is
thought to be an indication of plastic waste contamination and results in
microplastic contamination that accumulates in the sediment. The purpose of this
study was to find out the types of microplastics and how the density of
microplastics has polluted the sediments in the Sei Tuan Indah Beach Mangrove
Forest. This research was conducted in August - September 2022 using a
purposive sampling method. Sampling was carried out based on three depths,
namely 10-30 cm. Then the sample preparation stage was carried out to determine
the type of microplastic in the sediment and calculate its density. Four types of
microplastics were found consisting of fragments, films, fibers and foam. The
highest microplastic density was at station II (1353 items/m3), station I (912
items/m3 ) and the lowest at station III (578 items/m 3). The highest microplastic
density in the Pantai Sei Tuan Indah Mangrove Forest was found at a depth of 30
cm and plot 1 .
