    Abstract
The title of the thesis is Identity and Gender Relation in Female Journalist (A Case Study of Female Journalist who Join FJPI (Indonesian Female Journalist Forum) and who Work at the Printed and Electronic Media in Medan). A journalist as an agent of change should be able to become the pioneer in mitigating imbalances in gender which, consciously and unconsciously, is socialized by the industry of printed and electronic media. In reality, however, female journalists usually undergo irifustice in gender such as career limitation, perception that women are weak, demand for double burden for married female journalists, perception that women cannot achieve key position in media, and the vulnerability of female journalists to violent actions. This research described the identity of female journalists and the reality of gender discrimination in the relation pattern of media industry. The research was analyzed from the viewpoint of female journalists in Medan who joined FJI'Ifrom three levels of management: top level management, middle level of management, and lower level management. There were 18 informants, taken by using purposive sampling technique. The research used qualitative method with single case study and multi level analysis on female joi;rnalists who had joined FJPI and worked for media for 10 years. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman model in the method of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The result of the research showed that, in general, female journalists still undergo gender injustice. Even though their number is increasing, it is very difficult to make changes in gender imbalance. Patriarchal culture which is rooted strongly influences the reality of gender discrimination undergone !JJ.·female journalists.
