dc.description.abstractIn order to accelerate regional developmen,~ it is necessary to have profound analysis and study on commodity potency, growth pattern, and economic structure of that region so that they can help the government formulate and implement regional development program. The objective of the study was to find out 1) the high-ranking commodity, 2) the pattern and growth of the economic structure, and 3) the performance productivity and the shtft in economic structure in Nias Barat Regency. The research used the series of secondary data.from 2010 uniil 2014, that is, P DRB (Gross Domestic Regional Product) from BPS (Central Bureau of Statistics) Qf Nias Regency, commodity data from the Agriculture Agency of Nias Barat Regency, and North Sumatera Province. The data were analyzed by using Location Quotient (LQ) analysis, Typology Analysis, and Shift-Share Analysis. The result of the research, based on the mean value of productio1; with LQ, showed that high-ranking commodity of Nias Barat Regency in food crop sub-sector such as yam and cassava was at the LQ value of 7.56 and 1.05 respectively, in horticulture sub-sector such as swamp cabbage and chili it was at the LQ value of 1.47 and 1.34 respectively, in the plantation sub-sector such as coconut and cocoa it was at the LQ value of 4.16 and 2. 85 respectively. The result of Klassen Typology showed that in the economic growth and structure of Nias Barat Regency, {here is the prime sector in electric and gas supply, while the other sectors were categorized as underdeveloped ones. The result of shift-share analysis shm;.,·ed that productivity and the shift of economic structure in Nias Baral Regency did not change in which agricultural sector had the biggest contribution to PDRB, while processing industrial and service sectors developed slowly, but the total PDRB had undergone productivity growth of 25% in the last five years.en_US
