Eucalyptus is one of the fast growing species which is important as a raw material for the pulp and paper industry. Eucalyptus has long fibers, low lignin content, high yield, and high pulp and paper strength so that it can be used as a raw material for pulping. Pulp is the product of cellulose fibers from wood or non-wood that has been processed as much as possible by dissolving lignin. The need for pulp continues to increase every year as can be seen from the value of imports in Indonesia so that pulp has a great opportunity in the industrial world. Preliminary plant design of pulp from eucalyptus wood will use the kraft process and bleaching using laccase enzymes. This plant is designed with a production capacity of 40,000 tons/year and operates 330 days a year. The factory location is planned in Maredan, Tualang District, Siak Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia with an area of 12,084 m2. The business entity form of this factory is planned as a Limited Liability Company (PT) with line and staff organizational forms, and a workforce of 172 people. The results of the economic analysis on the design of the eucalyptus pulp mill are as follows:
1. Total Investment Capital : Rp 1.190.213.315.969
2. Total Production Cost : Rp 757.051.161.667
3. Sales Proceeds : Rp 1.120.000.000.000
4. Net Profit : Rp 250.308.224.031
5. Profit Margin (PM) : 31,92%
6. Break Even Point (BEP) : 32,24%
7. Return On Investment (ROI) : 21,03%
8. Pay Out Time (POT) : 4,75 tahun
9. Return On Network (RON) : 35,05%
10. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) : 26,15%
Based on the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that a factory for making pulp from eucalyptus wood using the kraft process and bleaching using laccase enzymes is feasible to establish.
