dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Superficial dermatomycosis is a fungal infection of the skin, nails and hair, caused by dermatophytes and non-dermatophytes. Fungal infections of the skin is often included as an occupational disease. Tofu industry is a small industry engaged in the informal sector, where workers typically work in an unfavorable environment with lack personal hygiene and without the personal protective equipment (PPE). Objective: To know the factors of personal hygiene, use of PPE, environmental hygiene, and duration of work affects the superficial dermatomycosis in tofu industries workers in Mabar Village Medan Deli. Method: This study is an analytic survey study with cross-sectional design. The study population is all the employees in nine factories. The independent variable of this study is personal hygiene, use of PPE, environmental hygine and duration of work. The collected data were analyzed using the analytic Chi-square test with 95% confidence level. Result: Among 72 participants, 18 suffered from superficial dermatomycosis. The results of chi square test for personal hygiene variable was p = 0.002 (p 0.05), for working time variable was p = 0.053 (p> 0.05), and for duration of work variable (years) was p= 0.683 (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Personal hygiene and use of PPE affected the occurrence of superficial dermatomycosis while environmental hygiene and duration of work did not.en_US
