Background : Recently many theories develop related to the mechanism of skin
tags occurrence. Infection of human papilloma virus ( HPV ) is suspected as one
of the causes of skin tag lesion. HPV is an epitheliotrophic virus that affects cell
proliferation and causes skin lesions such as cutaneous warts, laryngeal
papilloma, genital condyloma. The first study to find the correlation between
HPV and skin tag conducted by Dianzani, that identified HPV in 88 % of skin
tags lesions by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique.
Objective: To identify HPV type 6 and 11 in skin tag lesion by PCR technique
Methods: : This study is a descriptive study with cross sectional design involving
30 skin tags lesion. Skin tag lesion will performed PCR examination to identify
HPV type 6 and 11. Furthermore the collected data then processed and presented
descriptively.
Result : In this study we found 8(26, 7%) skin tag lesions identified with HPV
type 6 and 6(20%) skin tag lesions identified with HPV type 11
Conclusion: Totally from 30 lesions of skin tags were examination with PCR
technique, 14 ( 46, 7%) lesions identified with HPV type 6 and 11
