Students enter adulthood, generally between the ages of 18-25 years, a time when
students are responsible for their development, including responsibility for their
lives, to enter adulthood. Early adulthood is a period of search, discovery,
formation, and reproduction, a period full of emotional problems and tension, and
adaptation to new things. Gratitude has its own influence on each individual,
including students. Grateful people are individuals who value the ordinary
everyday things, and value the contributions of others to their lives. This research
discusses one of the studies in positive psychology, namely gratitude. The purpose
of this research is to find out the gratitude of male and female students at the
University of North Sumatra. This research uses the gratitude theory from
Watkins. This study used research subjects totaling 200 students at the University
of North Sumatra. The research method used in this study is a descriptive
quantitative method with data collection methods using the Adult Version of the
Gratitude Scale designed by the author. This scale is arranged in a Likert form
based on the aspects of gratitude proposed by Watkins, which are arranged into 15
items. The data obtained were then processed using descriptive statistical analysis
techniques. Based on the results of research data processing conducted, the results
obtained were that as many as 180 people or 90% of students were in the high
category and as many as 20 people or 10% of students were in the medium
category, and none of the respondents had gratitude in the low category or 0%..
