Synthesis of fatty acid amides by amidation of methyl esters of Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD) with urea using microwave radiation has been carried out. Methyl ester of PFAD can be made by esterification reaction between PFAD and methanol using H2SO4(c) catalyst and microwave heating at 50P power for 20 minutes. The reaction process was monitored by Thin Layer Chromotography (TLC). The obtained methyl esters were analyzed by FT-IR spectrometer. Fatty acid amides were obtained through the amidation reaction of PFAD methyl esters with urea using microwave heating at 50P power and 10 minutes. The PFAD amides obtained were analyzed by FT-IR. The melting point was determined, the formation of the PFAd methyl ester compound was indicated by a change in the wave number from 1707 cm-1 which was the stretching vibration of the carbonyl group of carboxylic acid to 1744 cm-1 which was the stretching vibration of the carbonyl (C=O) of the PFAD methyl ester compound. The formation of amides of primary fatty compounds is indicated by twin peaks at wave number 3309 cm-1 which is NH stretching asymmetry and 3220 cm-1 which is NH stretching symmetry and carbonyl peak (C=O) amide at 1670 cm-.1en_US
