Penerapan Pendidikan Pemakai (User Education) di Perpustakaan SMK Negeri 9 Medan
Abstract
The objective of this research is to investigate the implementation of user
education in the SMK Negeri 9 Medan library. The purpose of this research is to
find out the implementation of user education in the SMK Negeri 9 Medan
Library and add user insight into user education in the library. The method used in
this research is by collecting data by observation, interview, document, literature
study, and field study. Based on data analysis on the results of interviews with the
informants provided, it is known that they like user education activities using
presentations or directions given directly and making the material more interesting
and easy for users to understand.
The results of the study show that user education in the SMK Negeri 9 Library has
been implemented since the school was founded and is still running until now.The
techniques used are presentations, directions, library tours and users of manuals or
pamphlets. In addition, the application of materials is also carried out in the
library, namely the library plan, how to use the book collection cards, services
contained in the library and library rules. Providing assistance for users to know
about the name of the services in the library as well as the division of areas that
they have not known so far. Helps users to know how to search for information
more easily and helps users to find out the classification of types of library
materials in the library and the location of their utilization.
The conclusion of this research is that facilities and infrastructure as well as
collections in the library are a huge investment for the library, therefore the library
must be used and utilized as much as possible by users. The users are students
who are emphasized on independent study, so it is hoped that with library user
education activities they are able to better understand and use the library with its
various facilities and services more effectively and efficiently. This activity is an
opportunity for librarians to improve themselves not only as officers who only
serve users but also contribute their thoughts and expertise in improving the
quality of library services. Through this user education, the library has provided
something that is needed by its users.
