dc.description.abstractChildren's oral health should start at an early age, if not treated can affect the growth of the child's teeth. Plaque accumulation from foods that have not been cleaned for a long time may cause oral disease. One way to detect dental plaque is by disclosing solution. The role of the mother is very much needed in maintaining the health of the child's teeth and mouth. This study aims to determine the role of mothers in maintaining dental and oral health on the plaque index of kindergarten children in Deleng Pokhkisen District, Southeast Aceh. This type of research is descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional design. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research data was obtained through the results of the questionnaire conducted by the respondent's mother. Examination of the plaque index in children is carried out by examining the Loe & Silness index. Chi-square test was used to determine the relationship between the mother's role in maintaining oral health and the child's plaque index in the Kindergarten of Deleng Pokhkisen District, Southeast Aceh. The results showed that the role of the mother in maintaining dental and oral health was in the moderate category with a percentage of 51.9%. The role was based on the mother's education with a percentage of 52.9%, based on work was 44.3%, followed by the mother's age and the number of children with percentages of 48.1% and 49.0%. The results of the plaque index showed that children aged 4 years had a plaque index in the good category of 12.2%, with 13.2% of children being girls. Statistical test results showed the role of the mother in maintaining the dental and oral health of children on the plaque index in Deleng Pokhkisen District, Aceh Tenggara (p=0.008) The results of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between the mother's role in maintaining oral health and the child's plaque index. The majority of mothers have a role in maintaining dental and oral health with most children's plaque index being in the moderate category, namely 21.6% and 16.0% in the good category, followed by the bad category of 4.7%. This study concluded that there is a need to increase the role of parents, especially mothers, regarding children's dental and oral hygiene.en_US
