| dc.description.abstract | Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is an oral disease that is very common among adolescents, is not dangerous or life threatening, causes pain that can reduce the quality of life. This study aims to determine the knowledge of Sekolah Menengah Sri Tenby students regarding the understanding, predisposing factors and treatment of SAR at Sekolah Menengah Sri Tenby Ipoh, Malaysia. The type of research used is descriptive survey. The population in this study were 122 students at Sekolah Menengah Sri Tenby Ipoh, Malaysia. The research subjects were 93 students consisting of teenagers aged 13-17 years. The results showed that as many as 63.4% of students in this school knew that RAS occurred recurrently, as many as 72% of students knew that RAS was surrounded by an erythema halo and as many as 81.7% of students knew that RAS was round or oval in shape. In this study, 16.1% knew RAS was caused by genetic factors, 58.1% by food allergies and 62.4% by vitamin deficiencies. Furthermore, as many as 45.2% of students know that RAS is caused by stress factors and as much as 78.5% by trauma. Student’s knowledge of herbal medicines as a treatment for RAS was 80.6% and chemical drugs was 65.6%. In conclusion, students at Sri Tenby Middle School Ipoh, Malaysia know about the meaning of SAR, predisposing factors and SAR treatment. | en_US |
