dc.description.abstractStaphylococcus aureus is a bacterium that causes abscesses in the oral cavity in the form of gram-positive coccus shaped like grapes. Antibiotics are the main treatment for treating infections, but these bacteria are resistant to the antibiotic Methicillin against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. An alternative herbal treatment with clove leaf extract which has active compounds of essential oils, eugenol, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and terpenoids which can damage cell walls, interfere with function of enzymes and proteins cell causing cell death. The aim research objective was to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimum Bacteriocidal Concentration (MBC), and Inhibition zone of clove leaf extract against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC®29213™ at concentrations of 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50%. Laboratory experimental research method with a post test only control group design. The MIC and MBC tests used the dilution method, while the inhibition zone by the blank disk diffusion method was measured using digital calipers. Clove leaves were extracted by maceration technique from each concentration added to the bacterial suspension, repetition was carried out 4 times and then observations were made. Data analysis used the Oneway Anova test. The results of the study obtained the value of Minimum Inhibitory Content (MIC) 25%, Minimum Bacteriocidal Concentration (MBC) 50%, and Zone of inhibition of concentrations of 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50% on average 11 .44mm, 15.19mm, 18.43mm, 21.07mm and 24.25mm. The conclusion is that there is significant effectiveness of clove leaf extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC®29213™ with a significance value (p=0.000).en_US
