dc.description.abstract | The sulfation reaction between myristyl alcohol and SO3-DMF complex has been
successfully done. Formation of the SO3-DMF complex by reacting DMF with SO3 gas
as a result of the reaction of phosphorus pentoxide and H2SO4. Then the sulfation
results were neutralized with the variation of NaOH solution, which is 35%, 40%,
45%, and resulting in yields of 25,88%, 37,75%, and 46,72%, respectively. Then the
results were analyzed by testing the surface tension using a du nouy ring tensiometer
and testing the stability of the foam using a vortex mixer. The result show that the
surface tension values were 32.5 dyne/cm, 24 dyne/cm, and 29 dyne/cm, respectively
and the foam stability test were 0.5 cm, 0.3 cm and 0.5 cm respectively. The best results
was neutralized with 40% NaOH solution, which was able to reduce the surface
tension value and had a foam stability up to 66% with a decrease in foam height 0.3
cm. | en_US |
